For a monthly fee merchants can set up their own online store using one of many templates than can be used as is or customized, depending on the user’s skill level.
Shopify was founded in 2004 by Tobias Lütke, Daniel Weinand, and Scott Lake. In 2009 they launched an API and App Store, allowing developers to create their own Shopify applications. Shopify hosts over 120,000 online retailers. Since 2017 the company has provided physical card reader technology for brick-and-mortar retail purchases, including a dock and retail stand and a tappable card reader.
Customers are able to choose from different plans depending on their requirements:
