Three benefits of paying with contactless

First introduced in 2007, contactless payments have since become one of the most popular payment types

If you’ve ever wondered how contactless payments are made; payments via contactless are made by tapping your contactless card or device over a contactless card machine or reader which will then process and accept the payment.

Nowadays there are lots of benefits to paying with contactless technology, which is why this payment method has become so popular with many shoppers. So, what are the advantages of paying for your shopping with a contactless card or payment?

1. Save time with contactless payments

Contactless cards are a fast and convenient way of paying for your shopping and are accepted in the majority of stores. All you have to do is tap your contactless card against the reader and you can pay for your items in a matter of seconds. No one likes to spend a long time at a cashier till, so contactless is a great way to speed up the process.

2. Pay with ease for your shopping

Contactless payments have without a doubt made payment an easier process. There’s no complicated process, or having to find cash or remember your PIN, just a simple tap of your debit or credit card on the reader and you’re done. Paying for items couldn’t be more convenient.

As well as paying with a contactless card, you can also pay with many devices which adds extra convenience for the shopper. For example, mobile phones, watches and fitness trackers can all be used for contactless payments.

3. It’s secure

When contactless payment systems first launched in the UK in 2007, the main question on everyone’s lips was “How secure is contactless?” However, public understanding has come a long way since those early days. Paying with a contactless payment is safe and secure. Just like chip & PIN, contactless cards have the same protection which makes them safer than paying with cash. Certain contactless payment methods also set a limit on the transaction amount.

The limit is currently set at £45 per transaction. If you go over this you will have to use chip & PIN to help prevent fraudulent activity in the event of a lost or stolen card. Sometimes, there can also be a limit on the number of times you can use contactless payment in one day. From time to time, credit and debit card issuers perform security checks where you will be asked to enter your PIN and verify a contactless transaction. This can also be used to ensure protection against suspicious activity that could be a sign of a fraudulent transaction.

Summary

There are many contactless payment benefits, whether you’re a customer or a business trying to make payments easier for your customers. No matter which side of the customer/business relationship that you are on, if you haven’t fully embraced contactless payments you should start thinking about joining the club. We think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the results!
