An easy, secure and private way to accept contactless payments with only an iPhone and the Rapyd Pay app, no additional hardware needed
REYKJAVIK, Iceland — 27 May, 2025 — Today, Rapyd, a leading global fintech company, now enables its merchants in Iceland to seamlessly and securely accept in-person contactless payments with Tap to Pay on iPhone.
Tap to Pay on iPhone accepts all forms of contactless payments, including contactless credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and other digital wallets, using only an iPhone and the Rapyd Pay app – no additional hardware or payment terminal needed.
At checkout, the merchant simply prompts the customer to hold their contactless credit or debit card, iPhone or Apple Watch with Apple Pay, or other digital wallet near the merchant’s iPhone, and the payment is securely completed using NFC technology. Tap to Pay on iPhone also supports PIN entry, which includes accessibility options.
Apple’s Tap to Pay on iPhone technology uses the built-in security and privacy features of iPhone to help protect business and customer data. Apple doesn’t store card numbers on Apple servers, so merchants and customers can rest assured that their data stays theirs.*
With this launch, Rapyd becomes one of the first providers to bring Tap to Pay on iPhone to Iceland. The capability is available to eligible Rapyd merchants across the country, helping them simplify in-person payments, reduce operational complexity, and better serve their customers in-store, on the go, or at delivery.

Tap to Pay on iPhone enables Rapyd merchants to use a contactless payment acceptance solution that is easy to set up and use. Merchants will be able to unlock contactless payment acceptance through the Rapyd Pay app on an iPhone XS or later running the latest version of iOS, and can download the Rapyd Pay app from the Apple App Store to start accepting contactless payments.
